Top 7 School Holiday Space Activities for Kids

With the school holidays just around the corner, ‘Galaxy Girl’ and her team have put together a collection of easy space science and stargazing activities that are heaps of fun and will help you learn more about this amazing universe we live in.



1. Holiday Stargazing

Over two spectacular nights, the two biggest planets will be easy to find in the night sky when they are joined by the Moon. On October 14th, head outside after sunset to see the Moon just 4 degrees from Saturn. On the following night, the Moon will be right next to giant Jupiter. Enjoy the cosmic views!




2. Floating In Space

There have been many recent launches into space and we’ve seen astronauts floating in zero gravity. With this fun experiment, we can re-create our very own object to seemingly float in space.




3. Create Your Own Asteroid Impacts on the Moon

How can cake ingredients be whipped into a moon-like crater? Set up your very own experiment using different sized rocks, see the explosion and resulting crater when they slam into your moon surface.




4. Anti-Gravity DIY Galaxy in a Bottle

Get your ‘Glitter On’ with this beautiful galaxy in a bottle activity. So easy to make and once complete, the different colours of glitter dancing in the liquid are so mesmerising and very ‘out of this worldly!’




5. Explore the Moon

Blast off into space with this easy homemade rocket activity, using everyday items you have at home. Perfect for budding astronauts who want to travel to outer space!

Get crafty and learn all about the planets in our solar system with this easy DIY Solar System model. Paint your planets and make sure you put them in the right order from the Sun. Have fun!
