Who is this Privacy Policy for?

This privacy policy is for the website www.stargazersclubwa.com.au, run by Stargazers Club WA (“we”, “us”, “our”). It explains what personal information we collect through the website and our club services, how we use it, and how we look after it.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

Depending on how you use our website and services, we may collect:

  • Contact form enquiries: your name, email address, phone number (if you give it) and message
  • Newsletter signups: your name and email address
  • Memberships, event bookings and shop orders: your name, email address, phone number, address, membership details, the events you book and your order history
  • Website usage: technical information such as your IP address, browser, device, the pages you visit and how you found us

We don’t need sensitive information to provide our services, so please don’t send it to us.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • reply to your questions
  • manage your membership, event bookings and orders
  • send you our newsletter and the Free Telescope Cheat Sheet, if you’ve signed up
  • let you know about events, classes and club news
  • understand how people use our website so we can improve it
  • measure how well our Facebook and Instagram advertising works
  • keep our website secure and stop spam

We don’t sell or rent your personal information.

Memberships, events and shop

Our membership signups, event bookings, shop and member login are run through MembershipWorks, a hosted membership platform. When you join, book or buy, your details are entered into MembershipWorks and stored by them on our behalf. Payments are processed by a secure third-party payment provider connected to MembershipWorks. Your card details are handled by that provider and aren’t stored on our website. You can read the MembershipWorks Terms of Service and Privacy for more information.

Email newsletter

You can subscribe to our email newsletter through our website. Our newsletter is sent using Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), so your name and email address are stored in Mailchimp when you sign up. Our website also uses a Mailchimp script that helps us show signup forms and understand how newsletter subscribers use our website. It may set cookies in your browser. You can read the Intuit Mailchimp Privacy Statement for more information.

We send newsletters in line with the Spam Act 2003. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Our newsletters may include tracking, such as whether an email was opened, which links were clicked and when. We use this to make future newsletters more relevant to you.

Contact form and spam protection

Messages sent through our contact forms are emailed to us, and a copy is also kept on the website. Our forms use hCaptcha to check that messages come from real people and not automated spam. hCaptcha may collect information such as your IP address, browser details and how you interact with the form. hCaptcha is provided by Intuition Machines, Inc. See the hCaptcha Privacy Policy.

Use of cookies

Cookies are small files saved by your browser. Our website uses cookies to make the site work (for example, keeping you logged in as a member) and for the analytics and advertising tools below. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features, such as member login, may not.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how visitors use our website, for example which pages are popular and how people find us. It uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, device and browsing activity on our site. We only see this as combined statistics. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Meta (Facebook) Pixel. We use the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta Platforms, Inc., the company behind Facebook and Instagram. It records visits to our website and actions such as signing up, so we can measure our Facebook and Instagram advertising. It also lets us show our ads to people who have visited our website. Meta may link this information to your Facebook or Instagram account, and Meta’s Privacy Policy covers how it does this. You can change how Meta uses this information for ads in your Meta ad preferences.

Information stored overseas

Some of the services we use, including MembershipWorks, Mailchimp, Google, Meta and hCaptcha, store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we delete it when we no longer need it. No website or email system is completely secure, though, so please don’t send sensitive information through our website.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at no charge. Members can also update their details themselves through the Member Login.

If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first and we’ll do our best to sort it out. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

External links

We try to only link to quality, safe and relevant websites, but we can’t guarantee the content of other websites. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we aren’t responsible for how they handle your information.

Social media platforms

When you engage with us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn or X, that platform’s own terms and privacy policy apply. We’ll never ask for personal or sensitive information through social media. If you’d like to discuss something private, please contact us by phone or email instead.

Our website may include buttons for sharing pages to social media. If you use them, the social media platform may record that you shared the page.

Shortened links in social media

Some social media platforms shorten long web addresses (for example, bit.ly links). Please take care before clicking shortened links. Despite our best efforts, social media platforms can be targeted by spam and hacking, and we can’t be held responsible for where a shortened link takes you.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page.
